Hartford Police Shoot Knife-Wielding Man Late Friday Morning: Reports

The shooting on Friday, Feb. 27, is the second officer-involved shooting in a bit more than a week in Hartford.

HARTFORD, CT — City police have swarmed a location on Blue Hills Avenue in Hartford late this morning for a reported officer-involved shooting, the second in the city in more than a week.

According to WFSB Channel 3, a video submitted to the television station appears to show a man with a knife being shot several times by a police officer.

Channel 3 described the victim as a "suicidal man," citing the Hartford Police Department.

WTNH Channel 8, citing Hartford police, said officers were called to the 600 block of Blue Hills Avenue at 11 a.m. for a report of a suicidal man with a knife.

Police tried to stop the man using a non-lethal Taser, but it wasn't successful, WTNH reported.

The man is reportedly in critical condition at a Hartford-area hospital, WTNH reported.

As a result of the situation, Blue Hills Avenue was closed between Tower Avenue and East Burnham Street, and no access was permitted, according to the HPD.

Police said motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and avoid the area until further notice.

On Feb. 19, Hartford police shot and killed a knife-wielding man in his apartment after a reported mental health check turned violent.

The family of the victim has announced their intent to sue the City of Hartford and the Hartford Police Department regarding that incident.
