The district is offering incentives for teachers to stay on due to staffing shortages.

HARTFORD, CT — Hartford schools are paying bonuses to retain teachers as the nation deals with staffing shortages, according to WTNH News-8. The district is using money left over from unfilled positions in an effort to retain staff.

The district is offering bonuses of up to $1,000 for full-time employees this school year. Staff can get another $1,000 by combing back for next school year, and up to $1,500 for referring certified employees, WTNH News-8 reported.

District officials said they were able to staff only 75% of vacancies this year.
