Media outlets are reporting that the staff member in question is a teacher at Daniel Hand High School and that the student also attends the high school. School officials would not confirm that fact late Wednesday.

In the joint police and school statement it reads, “Madison Public Schools have taken all appropriate measure to safeguard the safety of the students. The Madison Police Department has been assured by Superintendent (of Schools Thomas) Scarice that “protecting the welfare of students is our highest priority and the district will fully cooperate with any criminal investigation.”
