Every Wednesday morning at 7 AM, I attend my BNI meeting, I like to think that I am always prepared to do a 60 second commercial. When well prepared, you can pack a lot of information into a commercial. I am usually prepared and know exactly what I am going to say and the message I want to communicate.
This past Wednesday I was not prepared, I got up and said that I didn’t know what I wanted my message to be. I looked around the room, everyone was shocked. Actually, I don’t even remember how I used up my time.
At the break, person after person came up to me and asked if I was alright. I said things like, I didn’t get enough sleep and I will do a better job next week. I hold myself to a high standard, especially when it comes to what I do for a living.
What Wednesday taught me was that all others around hold me to the same standard and have an expectation that I will perform at that level.
The message I want to share, be prepared for every conversation or presentation. Others will judge you on all that you say and do. We each have the power to get an A-B-C-D or F grade on all that we say and do.
