“I Miss You Dad, You Will Never Be Forgotten”

My dad passed away Feb. 11th, 1995 at the age of 88. He was a Holocaust survivor, but lost his first wife, daughter, 3 brothers, sister and mother and father. He escaped captivity 6 weeks before the end of the war, as he was being marched to Dachau, where there would have been no return. Somehow he knew, this was the one shot that he had and he took it.

I could write volumes about his history, but that is not the point of this post. He gave my two brothers and I a tremendous gift. The gift of survival, I can promise you, no matter what goes on with me or my family we understand survival. I continue to thank him and never forget his lessons.

One message that my parents always taught us, as it was always like a mantra, “DO NOT DIRTY THE STEPS TO THIS HOME”. The message was always clear, you kept your word and you fulfilled your promises. This was not like a choice, if you messed up in this area, well the result would not have been too good.

Sure, I reflect a bit more on Father’s Day, but he is with me each and every day.

Happy Father’s Day to all and to those that we need to remember.
