Local CVS Stores Now Featuring Generic EpiPens That Cost A Sixth of Name Brands

CVS made the announcement about the cheaper EpiPens on Thursday.

Area families dealing with severe allergies now have the option of acquiring an generic EpiPen that costs a sixth-less than a name-brand model.

CVS on Thursday announced the move in a news release.

"Patients with life-threatening allergies need immediate access to injectable epinephrine," the pharmacy chair said in a statement, referring to the formal mane of the EpiPen. "But over time, the brand-name epinephrine auto-injector pens that make it easy to quickly and safely administer the medication have become increasingly expensive."

They can cost more than $600.

All CVS Pharmacy locations are offering a generic EpiPen for a cash price of $109.99 for a two-pack, according to a news release.

The generic EpiPen has been approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration, according to the news release.
