Manchester Track Coach Under Suspension
School officials will not disclose the reason behind the placing of the teacher/coach on paid leave.

A well-honored coach from Manchester High School has been on paid leave for just over two months for undisclosed reasons, the Hartford Courant reported.
Thayer Redman, longtime boys track coach for the Indians, has been on leave since Sept. 9 “pending further investigation of certain matters related to your conduct as an employee in this school district,” according to a letter Redman received from assistant superintendent of schools Patricia Brooks, which was obtained by the Courant.
Superintendent Matt Geary told the Courant that due to the matter being an active personnel issue, he was not able to comment.

During his leave, Redman is barred from going onto school property, may not attend school-sponsored activities and is not allowed to use his school system email, the letter from Brooks states.
“You are not to have any contact in any manner with Manchester Public Schools’ students or parents of students,” Brooks wrote.

Redman, who teaches physical education at the school in addition to coaching, led the Indians to the 2011 Class LL championship, and was one of eight finalists for the national high school boys track coach of the year award. In 2012, he was presented the Doc McInerney Award as Connecticut coach of the year for a boys’ sport by the Connecticut Sports Writers’ Alliance at the 71st annual Gold Key Dinner.
