Recall Issued For 'Mislabeled' Shady Glen Ice Cream
A 'mislabeled' batch of Shady Glen ice cream sold in stores is being recalled over allergy concerns, state officials said.
NORTH CENTRAL, CT — The state Department of Consumer Protection’s Food and Standards Division on Friday was advising those who may have an allergy to soy not to consume a certain flavor of Shady Glen brand ice cream sold in stores.
DCP officials said the cookies and cream flavor in half-gallon containers produced by the Shady Glen Dairy Bar under the brand name Shady Glen Ice Cream may contain soy, a common allergen that can cause serious or life-threatening reactions if eaten by to those who have an allergy.
The soy was not declared in the labeling phase, officials said.

The product was only distributed in Connecticut to the following stores, who have been directed to remove it from shelves:
- Highland Park Markets in Farmington, Glastonbury, Coventry, Manchester and Suffield
- Big Y Supermarkets in Marlborough, Manchester, Tolland, Ellington and Enfield
- Shoprite Supermarkets in East Hartford and Manchester
- Geissler’s Supermarkets in Granby, Bloomfield, Windsor, Somers and South Windsor
"It's incredibly important to ensure that food products are labeled appropriately, especially when they may contain allergens that can threaten our health," Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull said. "We hope that consumers will take caution, and return this product quickly."

She also publicly thanked Manchester-based Shady Glen for cooperating with the recall.
