MERIDEN, CT — Thomas Wilderman, 73, has been identified as the man whose decomposing body was found in his East Main Street apartment earlier this month, according to police.

Wilderman was a registered sex offender with the State of Connecticut, a fact that Meriden police did not disclose in its statement about his identity. He was convicted of multiple counts of second-degree sexual assault on a minor and related charges in 1998, for which he served more than 10 years in prison, according to the state registry.

"The victim has been positively identified as Thomas Wilderman," Meriden Police Sgt. Darrin McKay wrote. "He was 73 years old and resided at 657 East Main Street Apartment D20. At this time this investigation is still active and although I cannot report anything new as of yet, a check with our detectives revealed that they are still pleased with the progress of the investigation and if and when I have additional information; I will certainly make you all aware."
