MIDDLETOWN, CT — Five people were displaced from their home after a two-alarm fire Friday in Middletown, according to officials.
Crews responded around 9:50 a.m. to the 200 block of Scarborough Lane in the Westfield section of the city on the report of a structure fire, according to fire officials.
“A second alarm was struck quickly due to the volume of fire and wind conditions which hampered operations immensely,” officials wrote in a post on the City of Middletown Professional Firefighters Local 1073 union’s Facebook page around 2 p.m. “The fire is currently knocked down and the Westfield Fire Marshals office is investigating.”

The first two Westfield engines arrived within 6 minutes of dispatch, and found "heavy fire that was being pushed across the attic by strong winds resulting in a second alarm," according to a post on the Westfield Fire Department's Facebook page.
"Along with mutual aid companies from Middletown Fire, South Fire District, Cromwell Fire, Middlefield Fire and East Berlin Fire an initial interior attack was made," officials wrote in the post. "Because of the rapid spread, fire operations were transitioned to attack from the exterior of the home.
"Water supply was provided by tankers from seven surrounding town fire departments as far away as Wallingford. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. The cause of this fire is under investigation by the Westfield Fire Marshals Office and the Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit.
"Thank you to all our mutual companies for their assistance."
