51 Green St Approved For St. Vincent DePaul

By The Planning & Zoning Commission

St. Vincent DePaul Middletown Will Be Getting A New Home!

Last Night Planning & Zoning Commission voted 5-2 in favor of the resolution so St. Vincent will have a new home to provide more services to our community.

On Monday March 4th the resolution for the sale of 51 Green Street by the City to St. Vincent DePaul Middletown was unanimous supported by the Common Council and Mayor Drew. The resolution was amended to a lease agreement instead of a sale for $1 per year, for a period of 10 years. It will then be automatically renewed for another 10 years. The amendment also says St. Vincent will will be working with the neighborhood and other community groups to ensure maximum use of the facility, including programs for families and youth.

A THANK YOU FROM RON KROM:
Hi everyone, Thank you to everyone who came out last night to the Planning & Zoning Commission meeting, to those of you who spoke, and to those of you who were with us in spirit. Thank you for your prayers and your support – it feels a bit overwhelming to know how much St. Vincent de Paul means to so many people.

After two hours of public testimony, the Planning & Zoning Commission

voted 5-2 to approve the City’s 8-24 application to lease 51 Green St. to St Vincent de Paul Middletown. As you know, this reverses their 6-1 decision to not support the move back on February 27th. That's huge – and I believe it’s because so many of you stepped up to let our City officials know that you support SVDM and the possibility for us to be in a new space.

We do not have to go back to the Common Council – they already approved the lease unanimously on March 4th. We may have one more step – it’s possible that we will need a zoning special exception, but that is still

unclear at this time. We should know soon whether we have the green light to proceed with finalizing the lease and to begin thinking about

renovations. We have also committed to participating in conversations with our neighbors to hear their concerns and to share our vision. This process has been difficult and there will need to be some healing.

Congratulations to everyone! How exciting to think that this dream to have more space and expand our programs and services is about to come true. Just as we meet needs & offer hope to folks on a daily basis, the City is ready to meet our needs as an agency and we are filled with hope for what’s ahead.

Thanks again!
Ron Krom
