Berlin Philharmonic Piano Quartet Performs at the Kate February 2
The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, "the Kate", is pleased to welcome the Berlin Philharmonic Piano Quartet on Tuesday, February 25

OLD SAYBROOK, CT - The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, “the Kate”, is pleased to welcome the Berlin Philharmonic Piano Quartet on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 7:00 pm.
The Berlin Philharmonic Piano Quartet unites three permanent members of the Berliner Philharmoniker, violist Matthew Hunter, cellist Knut Weber, and violinist Luis Esnaola, with renowned concert pianist Markus Groh. The four musicians devote themselves to the genre of the piano quartet, which is less prominent than the string quartet. This fascinating combination has inspired nearly every great composer since the time of Viennese Classicism. An impressive body of literature comprising a vast number of works has been composed for this genre. In addition to the more familiar quartets of Classicism, Romanticism and Modernism, the repertoire of the Berlin Philharmonic Piano Quartet also includes unknown compositions and rediscovered works.
The Quartet distinguished itself during its acclaimed debut tour of the US in February, 2018 with the premiere of Danny Elfman's Piano Quartet, a work co-commissioned by the Lied Center in Lincoln, Nebraska and the group itself. In addition to the Elman piece, the February 25th program includes Phantasy for Piano Quartet by Frank Bridge and Piano Quartet, Op. 13 by Richard Strauss.
