Black Bear Is the Talk of Middletown
From the bear's appearance to its future, a wandering black bear is on Middletown residents' minds.

When Carmela Ribera Stefurak shared this picture of a black bear on Middletown Patch’s Facebook wall, it really got folks talking!
She snapped this Tuesday, Oct. 28, picture on Hickory Circle and readers had a lot to say. Some people commented on the bear’s appearance.
- Laurie Falco — love the ‘earrings’! Middletown’s newest mascot.
- Dan Braccio — Banjo not included.
- Doreen Daniels Mayhew — Omg... He is so cute! I hope they don’t kill him.
- Laura Stergos — So cute!
- Crystal Byrd — He loves the camera, that we all know.
- Christine Marie — Carmela he was posing for you.
- Linda Lamontagne Russo — I don’t think the bear on Randolph Rd. and the Westfield bear are the same bear. They are common enough that there could be two with the tags. Too many busy roads between these parts of town, unless it took the city bus. He sure is cute, though.
Others had really good eyes and noticed things behind the black bear!

Do you see it, too?

- Elaine Bennett-Kingsland Let’s just hope they relocate them. It’s our fault they have no large forests to live in. Maine honors its animals and moves them. They also arrest hunters who kill out of season or who leave the animal behind. We should follow their example.
- Kari Stange Vecchitto I’m afraid to follow this story. I am afraid he will be killed. I sure hope not.
- Elaine Bennett-Kingsland Maybe we should give them names. Might save their lives!
- Kelly Misenti Tuttle That’s not the bear at my house last Thursday. He has one red tag!
- Tracy Lesinski Sad to say if it gets to close to people and it all ready has cause it has been tagged in both ears DEEP with get it
This isn’t the first sighting this month. On Oct. 21, Middletown Animal Control warned people not to approach a black bear seen in the Westfield area.
