MIDDLETOWN, CT — A cat that was struck by a car last week and needed to have her leg amputated is on the road to recovery thanks to the combined efforts of the Middletown Animal Control, Pieper Veterinary and the non-profit organization Cat Tales, Inc.

Cat Tales is providing Ginger with a safe, loving place for her to recover and the Middletown Animal Control is collecting donations to help offset the costs for her surgery.

“This is Ginger. She is a sweet, beautiful girl that was struck by a car last week," the Middletown Animal Control wrote in a post on Facebook. "She was considered a neighborhood stray at the time and looked like she had been on her own for some time. Years ago, she would have been euthanized immediately because treatment is expensive. We never entertained that thought and didn't hesitate to treat her but unfortunately that meant having her leg amputated. Her leg was so badly fractured, there was no other option.

"Pieper Veterinary treated her like a VIP for surgery and post-op care. Huge thanks to Cat Tales for providing her a safe, loving place to recover. Her surgery cost approximately $1,000 and will be paid strictly with donated funds. We would love to raise some money to offset our costs. If you would like to donate, even $5 helps, you can send checks to Middletown Animal Control at 222 Main St, Middletown CT 06457.
