Community Rallies Around Middletown Officer Battling Brain Cancer
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched for the officer, who has been battling an aggressive form of brain cancer, according to police.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — The Middletown Police Department and the community are rallying around an officer who is battling brain cancer.
The department reached out to the community for support in a post on Facebook.
“Unfortunately, one of our very own, Officer Matt Silvestrini has been battling a very aggressive form of brain cancer, to which there is no cure,” police wrote in the post. “Officer Silvestrini has dedicated his life to serving others. He is a decorated Veteran of the US Army (serving two tours in Iraq), he served the City of New Haven as a police officer before transferring to MPD in 2012. He is member of the Emergency Response Team, Firearms Unit, and an instructor here at MPD.

“The most important part about Matt, is his dedication to family. He is a proud husband and father of two beautiful children. If he isn’t at work he is with them, or doing some type of outdoor physical activity, or both!

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched in support of Silvestrini and his family.
More than $62,000 has been raised within the first two days of the campaign.
