Connecticut Humanities Receives $45,000 in Grants To Support Book Voyagers Programs
Generous funding from three charitable foundations will allow CT Humanities to continue family reading and discussion programs

Middletown, CT – Connecticut Humanities, a nonprofit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities and administrator of the Connecticut Center for the Book, has received $45,000 in grants to support Book Voyagers programs around Connecticut. The funding, which will allow Connecticut Humanities to extend its successful family reading and discussion program to several communities, comes from three charitable foundations.
The Ensworth Charitable Foundation, Bank of America, N.A., Trustee, has granted Connecticut Humanities $10,000 to provide Book Voyagers programming in Greater Hartford. A $10,000 grant from the NewAlliance Foundation will support similar programs in six communities within the Foundation’s service region. And a charitable foundation that wishes to remain anonymous has provided a $25,000 grant to support programs in Eastern Connecticut.
“This generous funding will allow us to introduce more Connecticut children and families to the magic of reading through the Book Voyagers program,” said Susan Muro, Grants and Programs Officer at Connecticut Humanities. “This critical program helps children achieve greater academic, career, and economic success by making reading fun, providing them with books, and encouraging them to continue reading at home with their families.”

Book Voyagers utilizes experienced program facilitators who work with libraries, schools, and other community organizations to help parents and children build reading skills and bring stories to life. They use hands-on techniques like discussion circles, storytelling, and interactive workshops to immerse the whole family in compelling learning experiences. Book Voyagers encourages a love of literature, promotes critical thinking, and gives children the self-confidence to share their thoughts and opinions with others.
