Fallen Member Of Middletown Police Department Remembered

A pair of ceremonies Sunday honored a Middletown police officer who was killed in the line of duty more than two decades ago.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — Middletown police Sunday honored one of their own who was killed in the line of duty 24 years ago.

Sgt. George Ross Dingwall was killed during the high-speed chase involving two New Haven men on Jan. 28, 2000.

Dingwall was less than a year away from retirement and was looking forward to a second career as a teacher, but he lost control of his police cruiser and hit a tree, according to law enforcement records. His car crashed along Route 9 in Essex, records show, and the the 19-year veteran of the force did not survive.
