Healthcare provider receives state award

APRN Malcolm honored for excellence in practice

Middlesex Hospital Primary Care is pleased to announce that Millicent Malcolm, DNP, GNP-BC APRN who practices in the MHPC-Middletown office was recently awarded the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) 2015 State Award for Excellence. She was honored at the AANP 2015 National Conference June 9-14, 2015 in New Orleans, LA. The award is given annually to only one nurse practitioner in the state of Connecticut who has demonstrated excellence in practice.

Millicent Malcolm has been an APRN at the MHPC-Middletown location for fifteen years. She predominantly cares for patients in long-term care facilities, assisted living, and nursing homes. Millicent has over 30 years of clinical gerontological experience and also is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University Of Connecticut School Of Nursing.

The AANP State Award for Excellence is not the only achievement for Millicent in the past year. In 2014, she was awarded a three-year $1.4 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for a Nurse Education Practice Quality Retention (NEPQR) project through the UConn School of Nursing with Middlesex Hospital and St Luke’s Community Services as partner agencies. The initiative, Geriatric Outreach and Training with Care (GOT Care!) provides a learning environment for students while conducting in-home comprehensive geriatric assessments for older adults living in the community.
