The 88-acre Mica Ledges Preserve is a beautiful and permanently protected open space that is open to everyone. The easiest access is from the parking lot at the end of Cream Pot Rd. Following a dirt road about ½ a mile you reach the beautiful 6-acre Whitney Pond - a great place for a picnic or for just enjoying nature. On the blue-blazed Mattabessett Trail located to the west (now part of the New England Trail), in less than a mile you reach exposed mica studded ledges with a magnificent vistas south to Long Island Sound and west to the trap rock ridges. Don’t miss the caves and fascinating rock formations created by the cliffs and boulder field on the eastern side of Mica Ledges. It is a great place to explore.
