The Kate’s Summer Camp Program Goes Forward

The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center (the Kate) will host its Kate's Camp for Kids day camp from July 6 - August 7 in Old Saybrook.

OLD SAYBROOK, CT – With strict adherence to guidelines provided by the CDC and Connecticut’s Office of Early Childhood, the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center (the Kate) will host its Kate’s Camp for Kids day camp from July 6 through August 7 in Old Saybrook. Five one-week sessions will be offered with several changes from years past in order to maintain physical distancing but the camp will retain its imaginative arts-filled curriculum.

“One of the major difference is the limited enrollment and final product,” said Executive Director Brett Elliott. “No more than twenty children can enroll each week and, rather than a musical production on stage, the week will be captured on video and shared with parents.” Campers will be divided into two groups of ten who work with their counselors as a distinct unit during the week. Daily health screenings of staff and campers, no sharing of equipment or supplies, and regularly sanitizing of facilities throughout the day will be the norm.

Camp groups will make use of several education rooms and the theater and plenty of outdoor time will be a part of the day. Kate’s Camp will continue to feature performing arts activities, including writing short stories and songs and learning choreography, as well as visual art projects. Registrations are now being accepted and partial scholarships are available
