Recess Rocks After Businessman's Generous Equipment Donation

Middletown's Macdonough Elementary School students now have enough soccer balls, basketballs and footballs and hula hoops to keep them busy with outdoor activity after Eli Cannon's co-owner hooked them up.

Not only is he a urban visionary, shrewd businessman and artist, Phil Ouellette, co-owner of both Eli Cannon's Tap Room and NoRA Cupcake Co., but a philanthropist with a soft spot for North End children.

Ouellette this week donated $300 worth of outdoor recreation gear to Macdonough Elementary School in Middletown after visiting elementary students and seeing a lack of good sports equipment for recess, according to a story in the Hartford Courant.
