Man Fired Several Shots During Fight: Middletown Police

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting in the city on Sunday night, according to police.

Police responded to Liberty Street around 8 p.m. on Jan. 15 on the report of gunshots. Officers found evidence of the shooting at the scene, according to police.

Witnesses told police that a fight resulted in one of the people involved taking out a gun and firing several shots at another person before leaving the scene.

Police said no one was struck by gunfire and no injuries were reported.

Dwayne Belton, 39, was identified as the suspect following an investigation, according to police.

Patrol officers found Belton driving in the area of Liberty Street around 3:15 a.m. on Jan. 16 and conducted a traffic stop, according to police.

Belton was arrested on charges of criminal possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and first-degree reckless endangerment. He was released after posting a $750,000 bond with a court date of Jan. 30, according to police.
