A Color Run is a fun race where runners pass through bursts of powdered color that give them a unique look as it lands on clothes. To make the race even more enjoyable, participants are encouraged to wear distinctive outfits such as tutus, leggings, hats or boas. The Color Craze, will be a color crazy day for all age groups, athletes and non-athletes! The 5K Cross County Run is a self-timed race through the scenic Long Hill Estate property. The registration fee of $25 for the 5K includes a T-shirt. The first fifty registrants will receive a specially designed commemorative shirt. For those who don’t want to run the full 5K, there will be a Color Fun Run on the Mercy campus that is free to all children and adults. Participants, 5K and Fun Run, are encouraged to register in advance via the Mercy High School website. Registration will be available the day of the race.

If you are not a runner but want to join the fun, there will be activities for children and adults including a DJ, face painting by Tracy Sutcliffe ’87, hula hooping with Cori Kopitar Magnotta ’02, make your own slime with Alicia Bray of Sofia’s Arts and Crafts of East Hampton, and a live concert.

Mercy Alumna Presley Termine ‘15 and current student Taylor Termine ’17, of the up and coming Country Western duo “Presley and Taylor,” with songs on the Top 40 Country Western Music Charts and a new album due out this spring, will be featured in a live concert at 12:30 pm.

After you finish your run and build up an appetite with all the fun activities, you will be able to enjoy some snacks and treats at the food truck area. Mercy alumnae Carrie Carella ’93 of NoRA Cupcake fame and Carmela Schiano Lockwood ‘96 of Jerry’s Pizza will have their food trucks on-site. Additional vendors include Mamouns and Hot Rocks BBQ.

Mercy alumnae Liz Malczon ’90 of Cromwell is happy that her two daughters, Caitlin ’18 and Abigail ’20, who attend Mercy, are participating with her in the event. “I'm so very proud of my Mercy education and grateful to be sharing this tradition with my two daughters. I think so many alumnae feel the same way and why many want to help with this event. There is a spirit at Mercy; it’s palpable when you walk through the front door. We are so excited to celebrate our spirit with the community and with other alumnae. How can you not like a day of fun and proceeds benefit the scholarship fund? It is wonderful to hear about the number of girls that benefit from scholarship aid. “

The color from the chalk that is thrown onto the runners at the finish should wash out after the event. The sooner its washed out, the better. It is suggested you wear items you wouldn’t mind becoming colorful and bring extra towels or cloths. Each family will be provided plastic sheets to place in their car to prevent transfer of color. If you are worried about your eyes, wear sunglasses, a visor or bandana to protect your eyes. Anything that you don’t want colored should be left in your car or placed in a plastic bag to protect it from the chalk. It will be helpful if you are driving to have wipes so that you don’t spread chalk on everything you touch in your car.

Please note: dogs will not be allowed on the property the day of the event. The 5K route is rugged and not suitable for very small children or strollers. The Mercy Color Craze begins at 9:30 am and will end at approximately 1:30pm.
