Midden Trail, Carp Video, Trees & Earth Month News

From John Hall, The Jonah Center

Many Hands Make Light Work at the Midden:

Check out what we were able to accomplish on a Sunday afternoon (March 22) working through a light rain. This work party achieved an initial clearing of the Loop Trail, shown in green here. Learn more about how to get involved with the Middletown Midden project.

On May 8, 2024, wildlife videographer Phil LeMontagne recorded carp spawning just upstream from the canoe and kayak launch at 181 Johnson Street in Middletown. You might want to plan a paddle on the Coginchaug River in early May to see this and many other wildlife activities in the area. Click here to watch the video.

Thanks to contributors to our Replace Our Trees campaign several years ago, the Jonah Center contributed $3,300 to the Urban Forestry Commission to replace trees on Main Street, now that more adequate “tree pits” have been constructed. Most of these trees — 1 honey locust, 3 black gum, and 3 shadblows — are on the west side of Main Street near Spear Park. Shown here is Gabe Russo of Forest City Farms who planted the trees.
