MIDDLETOWN, CT — A Middletown Animal Control officer is being credited with the daring rescue of a lost and frightened dog.

The incident took place this week after "Zara" went missing and the animal control department was assisting the owner with finding her.

ACO Brenda Jones located her on Wednesday at the bottom of a ravine adjacent to Route 9, officials said.

That's when compassion met toughness. Due to Zara being frightened and the possibility of her being injured, Jones brought a crate down the steep embankment and safely secured.

Zara was then carried and pushed up the hill to safety, officials said.
