Middletown Man Hid Heroin In Underwear: Clinton Police

The man was arrested during a traffic stop after police received a complaint of a speeding vehicle on Route 81.

CLINTON, CT — A Middletown man was arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop in Clinton and was later found to be hiding 23 bags of heroin in his underwear while at police headquarters, according to police.

At about 7 p.m. on March 29, Clinton Police received a complaint of a speeding vehicle on Route 81 southbound traveling from Killingworth into Clinton. The caller provided police with a description of the vehicle, including the registration plate.

Clinton Police officers Brian Corbin and Spencer Mangs observed the vehicle in motion and determined it was following another vehicle at a very close distance, according to Sgt. Jeremiah Dunn.

Dunn said the front seat passenger, Dillon Hofher, took responsibility for the marijuana and was found to be in possession of brass knuckles in his back pocket and was arrested.

“Upon searching the vehicle further, officers located a packet of white powder wrapped in cigarette cellophane wrapper and tin foil,” Dunn said in a press release. “This substance was seized and later identified as being Methcathinone, Also known as ‘KAT.’ This item has been sent to the Connecticut State Police forensic lab for further analysis.”

According to police, “Methcathinone (α-methylamino-propiophenone or ephedrone) (sometimes called "cat" or "jeff" or "catnip" or "intash") is a monoamine alkaloid and psychoactive stimulant, a substituted cathinone. It is used as a recreational drug due to its potent stimulant and euphoric effects and is considered to be addictive, with both physical and psychological withdrawal occurring if its use is discontinued after prolonged or high-dosage administration. It is usually snorted, but can be smoked, injected, or taken orally.”

While at the police station, Hofher was searched further and found to be in possession of 23 bags of heroin that were hidden in his underwear, according to Dunn.

The operator of the vehicle and the other vehicle passenger were not charged.

Hofher, 28, of Plaza Drive in Middletown, was arrested on charges of weapons in a motor vehicle, two counts of possession of narcotics with intent to sell, two counts of possession of narcotics, and one count each of possession of less than a ½ ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hofher was held on a $25,000 bond and was scheduled to be arraigned at Middlesex Superior Court on Thursday, March 30.
