Middletown Police Break Up Band Of Suspected Vehicle Burglars In Stolen Cars
Police officers — and a police dog — rounded up those suspected of car burglaries early Friday, a report shows.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — Middletown police broke up a gang of suspected vehicle burglars early Friday.
According to an incident report, just after midnight Friday, officers responded to the Maplewood Terrace neighborhood after resident reported attempted vehicle break-ins in a parking lot.
As officers converged on the area, two vehicles drive past them at a hight rate of speed, according to an incident report.

Officers caught up to them on a dead-end road. One vehicle became stuck in a deep snow bank while driving over a front lawn in an effort to escape and the occupants of the second vehicle abandoned it and scrambled away, according to an incident report. One of the vehicles, a Mazda CX-5, had been stolen from New Haven and the other, a Kia Sportage, was stolen from Middletown, according to an incident report.
Two juveniles were quickly taken into custody and three more were apprehended after a police dog unit was deployed, according to an incident report.

The five ranged in age from 12 to 15, according to an incident report.
All five were charged with:
- Conspiracy to commit larceny of a motor vehicle
- Conspiracy to commit reckless driving
- Conspiracy to commit engaging police in a pursuit
- Conspiracy to commit first-degree criminal trover
- Conspiracy to commit second-degree criminal trover
- Interfering with police
- Conspiracy to commit possession of burglar tools
All were released to the custody of legal guardians and were given juvenile court dates, according to police.
