📰 News we're reading

• Middletown Revolutionary War Soldier Overlooked No More (patch.com) — Middletown residents are invited to honor Revolutionary War veteran Philemon Freeman, a Black soldier from Middletown whose once-unmarked grave in Middlefield now bears a proper veterans headstone. A Sept. 12 grave-marking ceremony, part of America 250th events, will recognize his service, land grant, pension, and the family he raised after returning to Middletown.

• 'We are fed up': Middletown tenants push for repairs at apartment building (nbcconnecticut.com) — Middletown tenants at a locally owned apartment building are publicly demanding urgent repairs, citing a long-broken elevator, roof problems, leaks, and suspected mold that they say threaten health and safety. Residents describe being effectively trapped in their homes, especially those with disabilities, and plan to bring their concerns and documentation directly to city officials and the property owner.

• New Britain Bees capture their 1st FCBL championship behind Garret Garbinski, Owen Rich (thehour.com) — Connecticut's New Britain Bees have secured their first Futures Collegiate Baseball League championship, capping a strong season for several local college players. The story also nods to past high school title action at Middletown's Palmer Field, highlighting how the city's ballpark continues to be a backdrop for big baseball moments involving area athletes.
