Middletown Police Find Unloaded Firearm In Student's Backpack At High School
Police said an unloaded firearm was found in a student's backpack after a report of a possible weapon at school.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A gun was confiscated from a student at Middletown High School Wednesday.
Officers responded to MHS at about 10 a.m. after the police department was notified that a student may be in possession of a weapon on school grounds, according to an incident report. Meanwhile, school officials initiated shelter-in-place protocol while the situation was investigated.
During the investigation, officers located an unloaded firearm inside a student’s backpack, according to a police statement. Law enforcement personnel secured the weapon and resolved the situation safely, according to the statement.

Police said the shelter-in-place order has since been lifted and normal school operations have resumed.
Based on preliminary findings, there is currently no evidence to suggest that any threats of harm were made toward students or staff, according to the statement. Officers from the Middletown Police Department remained on site as a precaution and to support school administrators.
