Middletown Public Schools To Present Re-Entry Plan Wednesday

Middletown Public Schools ​will present its plan to allow students to safely return to school this week.

MIDDLETOWN, CT – Middletown Public Schools will present its plan to allow students to safely return to school this week, focusing on a "hybrid model" of learning.

The plan, entitled "The Re-Entry: Getting Back to Innovation and Equity," lays out a hybrid model for the beginning of the school year.

In a note to Middletown parents, Superintendent Michael Conner said the plan will focus on academic rigor, high-quality blended experiences, more virtual contact and personalized learning.

The details will be presented to the Middletown Board of Education on Wednesday and official dissemination of the "yellow plan" to families will happen on Thursday.

The "yellow plan" includes alternate scheduling, modified cohorts, reduced building capacity and strengthened hybrid learning. Hybrid learning has been defined as face-to-face learning coupled with asynchronous and synchronous instruction.

In the re-entry plan, the "yellow plan" is designed to be implemented in response to COVID-19 cases increases at a moderate level in Connecticut or Middletown.

On July 27, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont announced that all school districts in the state will have autonomy to adopt their preferred alternative model of education.

In order for schools to finalize schedules, student cohorts, bus routes and logistics, each family must complete a form in PowerSchool that will become available on Thursday and must be completed by Aug. 18.
