Middletown Resident Named CBA Treasurer

Attorney Sylvia K. Rutkowska will serve as treasurer of the Connecticut Bar Association.

Beginning July 1, Attorney Sylvia K. Rutkowska will serve as treasurer of the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) during the 2015-2016 bar year.

Attorney Rutkowska is an associate attorney at Dzialo Pickett & Allen PC in Middletown and Old Saybrook, practicing primarily in personal injury, civil litigation, land use, and municipal law matters. She has been recognized as a “New Leader in the Law” (2013) by the Connecticut Law Tribune and a Connecticut Women’s Education and Legal Fund: 40 Women for the Next 40 Years” honoree (2014).

Her activities in the CBA include assistant secretary-treasurer (2014-2015), district delegate for the House of Delegates (2011-2014) and member of the Board of Governors (2012-2014). She is also co-chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section (2014-present) and serves on numerous committees including the executive committees of the Young Lawyers Section (2009-present) and Litigation Section (2011-present).

In addition, Attorney Rutkowska is a member of the Pro Bono Committee for the Judicial Public Service and Trust Commission and the Quinnipiac University School of Law Alumni Association Executive Committee as well as Barrister for the Oliver Ellsworth American Inn of Court.

Attorney Rutkowska also serves on the boards of the Middlesex County Bar Association and Oddfellows Playhouse, a local nonprofit promoting the growth of young people through the performing arts.

The Connecticut Bar Association is governed by a Board of Governors and House of Delegates. The House of Delegates is its primary decision-making and policy-making body, while the Board of Governors is its administrative board that is responsible for budgetary and financial matters other than setting annual dues. There are also seven officer positions held by members of the association for a one-year term. The seven positions are president, immediate past president, president-elect, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and assistant secretary-treasurer.

As treasurer of the CBA, Attorney Rutkowska holds the funds of the association.
