1. LiDAR Traffic Signal Upgrades On Tap In Middletown (patch.com) — Drivers in Middletown will soon see smarter traffic signals as the city replaces aging in-road detectors with LiDAR sensors at key intersections to better respond to real-time traffic. Police stress the new units are not cameras and do not record images, emphasizing they only detect vehicle presence to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion around Middletown.
   

2. Helm's Blast in Second OT Lifts Field Hockey to Dramatic Win at Wesleyan (gotuftsjumbos.com) — A nationally ranked Tufts field hockey squad edged Wesleyan 2-1 in double overtime at Hicks Field in Middletown, with Helm scoring both Jumbo goals, including the game-winner. The Cardinals rallied late to force overtime and generated several dangerous chances, but Tufts' defense and goalkeeping held firm in a tightly played NESCAC matchup.
   

3. Connecticut State Police K9s receive bulletproof body armor (wtnh.com) — Connecticut State Police based in Middletown just outfitted two K9s, Hero and Teufel, with new bullet- and stab-resistant vests donated by a nonprofit. Each vest costs about $1,800 and is designed to be potentially lifesaving protection for the dogs while they work across the state.
   

4. Hundreds of CT affordable homes to be built using state tax credits (ctmirror.org) — Middletown is among 15 Connecticut communities sharing $10.4 million in state housing tax credits that will help build or preserve more than 450 affordable homes. Six supportive housing units are planned across Norwalk and Middletown, and several nonprofits will also receive flexible funding and downpayment assistance support as part of the long-running HTCC program.
