Rabies Statute Changes Coming Soon: Middletown Animal Control
The Middletown Animal Control is reminding residents that changes to the animal bite/rabies statute will take effect soon.
MIDDLETOWN, CT — The Middletown Animal Control is reminding residents that changes to the animal bite/rabies statute will take effect on July 1.
“The 14-quarantine period for a biting animal will be reduced to 10 days which means CT now is in line with the rest of the country,” the animal control wrote in a post on Facebook. “The location of the quarantine (at your home vs. at the shelter or a vet) is determined by your pet's rabies vaccination status. If your pet has a current rabies vaccination and you can follow the rules, your pet should be able to stay at your home.
“If your pet's rabies vaccination is expired or they have never had one, your pet MUST be quarantined off your property AT YOUR EXPENSE. Please read that again and say it out loud, RABIES MUST BE CURRENT. It has always been the law but this is an added incentive to be sure you keep things current for not just dogs but cats too (even indoor cats). Feel free to ask us any questions. Please SHARE!!!”
