School In Middletown Earns State 'Distinction' Status
School officials Monday said state officials have bestowed a major honor on a school in Middletown.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — The Connecticut Department of Education has named Middletown's Wesley Elementary School as a School of Distinction.
The designation honors schools that "demonstrate exceptional performance and/or growth among their students."
Wesley Elementary School earned this designation because of its growth among high-needs students in English Language Arts as measured through the Next Generation Accountability System, state officials said.

Wesley Elementary School joins Snow Elementary School and Farm Hill Elementary School, both of which were recognized as Schools of Distinction in the 2021-22 school year.
The Connecticut education department identifies Schools of Distinction through the results of the Next Generation Accountability System — a system in which schools and school districts earn points on a broad set of 12 indicators.
"There are schools in districts that stand out for their overall high performance, high academic growth, and/or greatest overall improvement. Annually, these schools are identified as Schools of Distinction," state officials said.
