UPDATE: Coast Guard Suspends Search for Missing Middletown Mother, Son
The U.S. Coast Guard said all resources have been exhausted after searching 62,000 square miles for Linda and Nathan Carman.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — After “exhausting all search efforts,” the Coast Guard suspended the six-day search for a missing Middletown mother and son on Friday.
The Coast Guard said the search for Linda Carman, 54, and her 22-year-old son Nathan spanned more than 62,000-square nautical miles, an area larger than the state of Georgia, from south of Block Island, Rhode Island to the Canyons off New York.
Linda and Nathan haven’t been seen since they left Ram's Point Marina in Point Judith on Saturday night for a fishing trip on a 31-foot aluminum center console boat, the Chicken Pox.

The Coast Guard was joined by agencies up and down the east coast in the search, which utilized Coast Guard cutters, helicopters, air sentry aircraft and other vessels.
The Providence Journal reports that the Coast Guard was searching the waters off Block Island late Thursday evening after two fishermen reported finding floating debris.

One fisherman found a marine deck box cover while another brought in an assortment of materials, including a pillowcase and empty engine coolant containers, according to the Providence Journal.
Petty Officer Third Class William Holz told the Journal the items were not positively identified as belonging to the Carmans but the information was enough to continue searching the area.
Monty Monterio, a longtime friend of Linda Carman, told NBC 10 News earlier in the week that he hasn’t heard from her since Saturday. Monterio also told NBC News 10 that Linda and Nathan were going to try a new spot and told him she “doesn't know how to use the equipment on board” because Nathan typically operates the vessel.
Anyone with information about Nathan Carman and Linda Carman or their missing vessel are urged to call The Coast Guard's First District command center at 617-223-8555.
