In 1956 President Dwight D. Eisenhower made a Proclamation that September 17th is to commemorate the National US Constitution Day. On Friday September 5th the Wadsworth Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) met with Mayor Gene Nocera for him to sign a Proclamation that the city of Middletown will be commemorating Constitution Week from Wednesday, September 17th to Tuesday, September 23rd. The observance begins with Constitution Day on September 17th, to commemorate the 1787 signing of the U.S. Constitution, and extends through the following week to encourage education and celebration of this foundational document.

ABOUT THE WADSWORTH CHAPTER OF THE DAUGHTERS OF THE REVOLUTION:
Wadsworth Chapter was founded February 2, 1892, the chapter was first in Connecticut (prior to the Connecticut State Society being organized) and second in New England. It is named for General James Wadsworth, a representative to the Continental Congress and, later, to the state legislature for Durham. Wadsworth, also a judge, decided one of the first Connecticut cases of a slave seeking legal redress against an owner in favor of the enslaved man.
