As part of the Solarize Middletown initiative, solar homeowners Jenn and Darrin Bourret are opening their home up to neighbors who want to learn more about how to take control of their home’s energy costs while reducing their impact on the environment. On Saturday, October 15th, from 10 AM – 2 PM, the public is invited to come and experience firsthand what it is like to have a solar PV system on your home. Visitors can learn about the discounted pricing and state and federal incentives offered through the Solarize Middletown program; all Connecticut residents are invited to attend.
Jenn Bourret comments, “We installed 21 solar panels in December 2012. Our main motivation to go solar was the environment, but lowering our energy expenses was also a consideration. Our system was built to generate 8,470 kWh and cover 100% of our energy needs. The cost of electricity will only go up, so I encourage people to consider solar. The panels have performed as expected and there is no maintenance. We worked with Sunlight Solar, the installer for Solarize Middletown. We had a great experience with Sunlight Solar; we found them to be very knowledgeable and professional without being pushy, which we appreciated.”
A solar workshop will also take place on Monday, October 24 from 7:00 -8:30 pm at the Middletown Police Department Community Room at 222 Main St in Middletown, CT. Sunlight Solar, the installer chosen by the City, will give a presentation about the Solarize program, including the extension of the 30% federal tax credit and how to finance a solar installation.
