Welcome Table Wednesday Celebrates Seven Years Serving

Free Community Dinner

Welcome Table Wednesday, a free community dinner put on by Faith Lutheran Church of Middletown, will celebrate its seventh year anniversary of service to the community of Middletown at a picnic on Wednesday, August 10th, from 6 to 7 PM. This table has served others every Wednesday, rain or shine, even during Tropical Storm Irene in October of 2011. The core belief and driving force behind this Welcome Table is that others matter because they are infinitely valuable to God. The hope of this dinner is to nourish others with food and fellowship and help address hunger in Middletown. This Welcome Table Wednesday dinner is a core ministry to this faith community and the spirit by which it is carried out is stronger than ever. Each week Welcome Table serves between 50 and 70 people. Over the seven years of service, that amounts to more than 21,000 people served!

The way this dinner is carried out each and every Wednesday is rather unique. There are no schedules, sign up lists, committees, or much formal organization to running it. Volunteers appear and have been for seven years to prepare, cook, serve, and cleanup to make this dinner happen. The generous food donations appear on a regular basis, too. These donations make serving this dinner possible. From time to time, when the shelves run low, a request is made to the congregation and the pantry is re-stocked almost overnight.

The members of this faith community wish to thank the loving and generous people of Middletown and beyond for their support of this ministry. This ministry has been blessed abundantly and out of that abundance, this faith community feels called to love and serve one another.

You do not need to be a member of Faith Lutheran to help or to share in this picnic. All are welcome. Donations of picnic food will be welcomed, but are not necessary. Volunteers are always welcome to come on Wednesday and help set up and serve. Come by 300 Washington St. at 5 p.m. to be of service. The dinner is served from 6 to 7 p.m.
