Wesleyan Student Enters Plea in Molly Overdose Case

One of the Wesleyan University students charged after a mass Molly overdose in February has pleaded not guilty to drug charges.

Rama Agha al-Nakib entered the plea in court Tuesday, according to the Hartford Courant.

Police arrested five students in an attempt to root out the source of a suspected bad batch of the party drug Molly that sent about a dozen people to the hospital.

Al-Nakib, a Syrian citizen who lives in Maryland, allegedly told police she doesn’t believe in the American medical system and that she shouldn’t have to see a doctor every time she feels sick.

She also allegedly told police that she purchased a large amount of Xanax online from India and she would sell pills to cover costs.

She was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.

MDMA or Molly, causes “increased energy, euphoria, emotional warmth and empathy toward others, and distortions in sensory and time perception,” according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

“This particular batch may have had a mixture of several kinds of designer drug chemicals, making the health risks unpredictable and treatment to combat the effects, complex and problematic,” said Police Chief William McKenna after the incident.
