Woman Had More Than $100K Worth Of Cocaine Delivered To Neighbor’s Home: Middletown Police

The neighbor contacted police after receiving a package that was shipped from Puerto Rico with a return address of her deceased brother.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A Middletown woman is accused of having more than $100,000 worth of cocaine shipped to her neighbor’s residence from Puerto Rico, according to police.

A woman brought a suspicious package to police headquarters last Thursday morning (March 2) that had been delivered to her by the U.S. Postal Service. The package was addressed to her and had a return address with her deceased brother’s information showing that it had been shipped from Puerto Rico, according to the police report.

The woman was confused by the unexpected package since it had been sent from her deceased brother and she ultimately decided to open it.

She told police that she found a large black case in the box and there were three rectangular items inside. She said that the interior of the box smelled heavily of soap and after opening the black lockbox, the woman found numerous “Clorox” wipes and packages that appeared to be bricks of narcotics, according to the police report. She then brought the package to police headquarters.

Police confirmed that the package contained three bricks of cocaine (wrapped in plastic packaging) that totaled 7.61 pounds, according to the report.

The total street value of the seized cocaine was determined to be $111,000 to $120,000, according to police.

The woman told police that her neighbor, Jasmine Delgado, had recently asked if she could have a package of children’s clothes delivered from Puerto Rico and she hesitantly allowed Delgado to use her address, according to the report.

The woman was allowed to return home and police told her to contact them in the event someone came looking for the package.

Within minutes of the woman leaving the police department, she returned and told police that Delgado had called her and asked where the package was, according to the report.

The woman put the phone on speaker and continued speaking to Delgado, who said she was very worried about locating the package, according to the report.

Delgado told the neighbor that she “would be in a lot of trouble if she did not get the package that had been delivered,” according to police.

The neighbor then told Delgado that she would be returning shortly and that she could wait at her apartment.

Police went to the apartment and met with a woman in the kitchen who identified herself as Delgado and she was taken into custody.

Delgado immediately told police that she didn’t understand what was going on, according to the report.

At police headquarters, Delgado said that she had been waiting for a package but believed it had been clothes. She said that she didn’t know it was cocaine until informed by police, according to the report.

Police said Delgado, who does not have a criminal history, made no additional statements.

Delgado, 27, was arrested on charges of criminal attempt to possess narcotics and criminal attempt to possess narcotics with the intent to sell.

She was released on a $500,000 bond and is due in court on March 10, according to state judicial records.
