Foran Winter Sports Recap

A quick look back at Foran High's winter athletics.

As the winter athletics draw to a close for Foran High School, here is a quick look back at  a few of the teams and moments that shaped the season.

Starting with boys' basketball...

Coach Swaller's group finished 13-7 The team competed well during their first-round SCC tournament game but fell behind in the final quarter, . The No. 16 seeded Foran team will play its first-round Division M game on Monday against No. 17 Gramby Memorial (12-8) at Foran High School at 7:00 p.m.

On to girls' basketball...

Coach Nails' team finished an even .500 with a record of 10-10. The No. 22 seeded Lions lost their CIAC Class L opening round game 49-34 to No. 11 RHAM. Still there were gutsy moments during the season that endeared fans to this group of Lions.

After dropping their first three games of the season, the team rebounded with a After the team lost , they responded with , the team needed to win three of its remaining eight games to advance to States. Coach Nails' comment after the loss to Guilford demonstrated the team's resolve.

"Of our last seven games, six of them are in Milford and five are in our place," said Nails. "They are all winnable games. We have to go out and get them. Nobody will lie down. They won’t beat themselves. We have to go out and win the game.”

 On to to the ice...

The boys' Division II Milford Co-op Indians had a rough year. The team finished with a record of 6-13-1, missing the state tournament requirement of at least 10 wins and a .400 winning percentage. Below is a list of wins, losses and ties with each team's corresponding division.

There was good news on the ice for Foran this year.

Foran gymnastics had a strong season, , competing in the SCC Championships and finishing second in Class S Gymnastics. Congratulations to the state competitors, Megan DeMaro, Lauren Harriman, Caroline Liu and Elissa Paulino!

Wrestling finished 16th in the Class M Wrestling state competition.
