CT Teacher Organizes Blanket Drive to Comfort SHU Victim's Sorority Sisters

A CT teacher is organizing a 'Binky Drive' to help the Sacred Heart sorority sisters of Kaitlyn Doorhy cope after their loss.

A Connecticut school teacher is organizing a ’Binky Drive’ in order to bring comfort to the sorority sisters of Kaitlyn Doorhy, a Sacred Heart University student who died on Aug. 23 after being struck by a car. The 20-year-old would have started classes on Aug. 25.

Open letter from Kimberly Marini Killoy:

Binky Patrol Southern Connecticut SHU’s Kappa Delta sisters returned to classes last week with a great sadness at the thought of facing the year without their sister Kait Doorhy. We at Binky Patrol want to comfort them during these challenging days and give them something to help honor their beautiful sister as they celebrate her life. We made a goal to collect 90 blankets for Kappa Delta, and I’m thrilled to say that we have over 30 already completed binkies with at least 15 more in the works in only 10 days.

We’d like to mark the one month anniversary with this special gift of comfort for the sisters. September 23rd is not only the anniversary of her passing, but it is also the beginning of fall. As the students look at their beautiful campus with the beautiful, changing colors and remember their amazing friend, we can give them something to hold on to so they can keep them warm on the cool nights.

We need help to get the remaining 45 binkies or so in the next 2 weeks. Binkies can be fleece, knit, quilted or crocheted. They should be 48x 60 or bigger. If you are making a fleece blanket you can make it single layer or double. You can use any colors but SHU’s official colors are red and white and Kappa Delta’s colors are olive green and white.
