The Masuk High School field hockey team is ready to show how much difference a year of experience makes.
Coming off a one-win record last season, the Panthers have many returning starters taking to the field this year and four dedicated senior captains ready to help the team to the next level.
"During the 2009 season we had many exciting moments," said coach Kelly Mackenzie. "As a team, we saw a lot of growth and learned a great deal. We focused on defense and working together as a team, but struggled with scoring."

Mackenzie looks to take advantage of her team's strengths and boost it offensive needs through the captains.
"The key to our team's success for the 2010 season will be strong solid defense and quick shots on net," she said.

Co-captains Kelly Chrisman, Natalie Ciancetta and Simone Romano will be crucial to the Panthers' control the middle of the field, pushing the ball up to the forwards and supporting the backs on defense.
Co-captain Samantha Romano will provide the offensive punch from the right wing.
"She fills in the post area very well and always has her stick ready to executing a tip into the net," Mackenzie said.
More important than what they bring to the field, Mackenzie said these captains are moving the program forward by example and with encouragement.
"All of our captains bring energy, commitment and focus to the team," she said. "They are the first ones at the field and last ones to leave. They are always asking questions and wanting to learn more. Most importantly they are their teammate's biggest fans."
With continued development, Mackenzie is confident the team is destined for a strong season.
"We are looking forward to a successful season," she said. "We have many second-year starters who have continued to build their skills and knowledge of the sport. As a team, we are excited to take our skills to the next level and become a competitive team."
