Monroe Man Accused of Accidentally Shooting Son Seeks Probation

The man was arraigned on Tuesday.

According to the paper, Vincent Pizzolato, 44, is seeking probation. His lawyer told the judge they were filing an application for accelerated rehabilitation, a program under which Pizzolato would not admit his guilt but would be put on up to two years’ probation.

The original charges would be dismissed if he commits no other crimes.

In the March 8 incident, Pizzolato went into the basement to secure two pistols into a safe and after checking one of the pistols believing it to be empty, he pulled the trigger and the pistol fired one round, according to police.

The round traveled through a wall into a finished family room and struck his 10-year-old son in the face.

The Ruger 9mm pistol was examined by a Bridgeport Police Department Firearms Examiner and found to be working as designed.

Pizzolato was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

According to the Post, when police arrived at the home for the report of the shooting, Pizzolato was on the phone with emergency responders and he was visibly distraught and shaking.
