Latest Naugatuck Coronavirus Updates

Here are the latest local updates on how the coronavirus outbreak is impacting Naugatuck:

NAUGATUCK, CT — The new coronavirus outbreak in Connecticut and across the nation is having vast impacts in Naugatuck, including the closure of schools and many businesses.

The number of cases of the illness caused by the virus, known as COVID-19, continue to rise and additional measures and closures continue to be announced. The governor has declared a ‘Stay Safe, Stay Home’ program. All non-life-sustaining businesses in Connecticut have been closed.

As of Tuesday, there were 2,571 positive cases of coronavirus in Connecticut, including seven confirmed cases in Naugatuck. A total of 36 people in Connecticut have died as a result of COVID-19.

Naugatuck closed its golf course last Friday due to people congregating in the parking lot. A decision will be made later this week on when and if it will reopen.

In a further effort to adhere to social distancing guidelines, access to the town hall has been restricted. Residents are encourage to conduct town related business over the phone or internet. Residents can call any department for an appointment. All departments are in operation.

Naugatuck Public Schools have begun their online learning program. Anyone needing assistance can visit the school website.

The school breakfast and lunch program will operate meal service for all persons (18 years of age and under) under the direction of CT State Department of Education, (CSDE) version of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP)program.

A bagged breakfast and a bagged lunch will be provided to take home for each child under 18 years old as long as one of the children attends NPS. Children do not need to be present in order to collect the meals. Sample bag breakfast (must take complete meal bag): Nutrigrain bar, 100% Fruit Juice, Graham Cracker, Piece of Fruit, Milk

Mobile testing sites are operating at St. Mary's and Waterbury Hospitals, as well Griffin Hospital in Derby. Residents are reminded that they need a written order from a doctor to be tested.

Individuals that would like to volunteer to assist those in need are asked to contact the United Way of Naugatuck at (203) 729 -1564.

All Borough parks and playgrounds will be closed. This will also include the Naugatuck Armory with its associated events and activities. These closures will remain in effect until further notice.
