Prospect Man Charged In Armed Standoff: Police
A Prospect man is facing charges after police say he armed himself with a handgun and barricaded himself in his home.

PROSPECT, CT β A man was arrested following an hours-long standoff with police in Prospect, according to Naugatuck police. Naugatuck, Prospect, and state police went to a Chandler Drive home Monday to take Michael Periera, 41, into custody.
Police said that Pereira had violated a restraining order and harassed the order's protectee. However, when police attempted to make contact with Pereira, he allegedly armed himself with a handgun and barricaded himself in the home.
This resulted in an hours-long standoff between police and Pereira. Police were eventually able to establish a dialogue with Pereira, and he surrendered without incident and was taken into custody by Naugatuck police.

Police said they recovered guns at the home. There were no injuries in the incident.
Pereira was held on a $200,000 bond and appeared in Waterbury Superior Court. He was charged with violation of a restraining order and second-degree harassment.
