NEW CANAAN, CT — A section of carpet or a mat, which state police believe could hold clues to the disappearance of New Canaan mom Jennifer Farber Dulos, was discarded outside of Hartford restaurant in May but has not yet been found by state police investigators, reports the Hartford Courant.

The evidence was placed outside of the Milagros Spanish Restaurant on Albany Avenue by someone who authorities believe was Fotis Dulos, the estranged husband of Jennifer Dulos who has been charged in connection with her disappearance.

Surveillance video from soon after Jennifer Dulos disappeared shows a man, believed to be Fotis Dulos, dumping the carpet and driving away. Investigators searched dumpsters and the area around the restaurant, and questioned employees about the carpet, writes WTNH-TV, but it has not been found.

Another possible piece of evidence that is also missing is a knife that was found and then traded for drugs by a Hartford man, according to the Courant. Authorities believe that Jennifer Dulos may have been the victim of a violent attack at her New Canaan home, based on evidence found at the scene.

Fotis Dulos and his ex-girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, are accused of discarding several items following the disappearance, some of which have tested positive for Jennifer Dulos' blood. Both Fotis Dulos and Troconis have pleaded not guilty to the charges of evidence tampering and hindering a prosecution.

Fotis and Jennifer Dulos were in the midst of a contentious divorce and custody battle over their five children at the time of her disappearance. Gloria Farber, Jennifer Farber Dulos' mother, has been granted temporary custody of the children and is seeking sole custody.

In recent court filings related to the custody fight, Farber's attorneys have argued that Fotis Dulos is using the children as "pawns" in the proceedings, as he seeks obtain their academic and medical records, writes The Hour.
