Motion Filed In Jennifer Dulos Case Seeking Mawhinney Evidence
The attorney for defendant Michelle Troconis is seeking interviews and other evidence from authorities involving defendant Kent Mawhinney.
STAMFORD, CT — The attorney for Michelle Troconis, one of the defendants in the Jennifer Farber Dulos disappearance case, has filed a motion to obtain the interviews with authorities and other materials from "jailhouse informant" Kent Mawhinney, the other defendant in the case.
Mawhinney, a former attorney and friend of the late Fotis Dulos, spent months in jail following his January 2020 arrest in the case, but was released in the fall of that year after his attorneys successfully convinced a judge to significantly lower his bond.
Jon Schoenhorn, Troconis's attorney, claims that Mawhinney has implicated Troconis in the plot to kill Jennifer Dulos, who disappeared on May 24, 2019; she is presumed to be dead, but her body has not been found.

Both Troconis and Mawhinney are facing conspiracy to commit murder charges in the case, accused of assisting Fotis Dulos in the plot. Fotis Dulos was charged with kidnapping and murder, but he took his own life in January 2020 before he could stand trial.
Prosecutors said they will call Mawhinney to testify against Troconis.

Mawhinney and Troconis have pleaded not guilty in the case, and both are free on bond and wear GPS tracking devices on their ankles. This month, Schoenhorn revealed that Troconis no longer lives in Connecticut full-time, instead splitting most of her time between Colorado and Florida.
"[Mawhinney] is a disgraced former attorney with some litigation experience and is aware of the ways that witnesses can manipulate or give false testimony," Schoenhorn wrote in the motion. "He has given contradictory stories to the police in the past that further demonstrates a lack of veracity. He also in the past claimed that he suffered from memory loss and is accused of causing harm to his own spouse."
Schoenhorn is seeking Mawhinney's written and/or recorded or videotaped "alleged confessions" in the case, which he made to prosecutors and law enforcement. Additionally, Schoenhorn is seeking any other physical materials and evidence in the relation to those discussions.
"In this case, shortly after Mawhinney provided a statement to the State Police that was thereafter subject to edits by his own attorneys prior to its acceptance, Mawhinney’s bond was reduced substantially and he was then released from custody without a court hearing, apparently with the approval of the Chief State’s Attorney," Schoenhorn wrote.
Separate from the Dulos case, Mawhinney also is facing charges in a sexual assault case involving one of his ex-wives.
Mawhinney's next court appearance in the Dulos case, which is listed as a remote hearing, is scheduled for Jan. 18; Troconis is next scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 15.
