New Canaan Woman Sentenced for Near-Fatal Crash

Police said she was intoxicated at the scene, but the charge wasn't brought in court.

NEW CANAAN, CT—Local woman Carol Sung, 52, was fined a total of $800 and sentenced to six months in prison suspended after 48 hours after she pleaded nolo contendere for an accident that nearly killed two others.

She will also have to make restitution to the victims, attend substance abuse counseling and attend MADD victim impact panels, according to the New Canaanite. The October 2014 crash on Silvermine Road injured Michael Bivona and Darryl Shaw.

Police determined that Sung was intoxicated at the time of the crash, but the hospital apparently neglected to test Sung's blood for drugs or alcohol and the case prosecutor declined to bring the charge.

Bivona has filed a civil lawsuit.

Sung was arrested in January after she tried to pick up her child from school while intoxicated, according to police.
