To the editor:

“One can not think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” – Virginia Wolfe

And dine well we did! The Young Women’s League of New Canaan hosted the 1st Annual Dinner Downtown on Sunday, September 15th. This sell out (in less than one week) event had been a wish of past and present YWL Presidents and Tucker Murphy and Laura Budd of the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce. Working collaboratively with some of New Canaan’s finest restaurants, we were able to provide guests with a delicious family style meal under the stars on Forest Street. Perfect September weather provided a beautiful backdrop for what we hope will become one of New Canaan’s most favored traditions.

Thanks to strong sponsor and community support, we were able to raise over $25,000 from Dinner Downtown in support of this year’s giving theme: Today’s Kids, Tomorrow’s Future. These funds will go to our Featured Beneficiary, A Better Chance of New Canaan, and the YWL Giving Fund, which will distribute these funds to local organizations that work to enrich and change children’s lives on a daily basis.

We wish to extend a special thank you to our sponsors: Porsche Greenwich, Ashley Petraska – William Pitt Sothebys, Stewarts’ Spirits, New Canaan Pediatric Dentistry, Juliska and Found. Thank you also the restaurants that partnered with us to serve a truly unforgettable meal: Baldanza, Cava, Elm, Gates, Locali, New Canaan Diner, Rosie New Canaan, South End, South End Uncorked, and The Roger Sherman Inn. We are especially grateful to our entire planning committee for working tirelessly throughout the summer to pull off a new one of a kind event in less than 60 days, Christina Saburro Photography for capturing the event so perfectly as always, and Michael Louis-Smith (MLS Music) for providing a memorable soundtrack to the evening.
